Troop Plans and Calendar
Troop 17,
Please excuse the following summary troop plans for the rest of November and December. I will write up more detailed plans when I return home Nov 21.
We are now moving into First Aid training for Nov and Dec.
Dr. Henson will be the lead instructor for these classes. Experienced Life Scouts will help with instruction. Eman, Joe, Jon, Bryce and Nathan (Eagle candidates) may work on other topics to reach their goal. At the end this period of instruction, all boys will have First Aid Merit Badge and all First Class rank requirements for First Aid; and all adults and scouts will be CPR qualified.
On Nov 17 the topic will be first aid/CPR. The meeting will run 7:00- 8:30 pm as usual.
On Nov 24 we will have a longer than usual meeting; ending at 9:00 p.m. There will be a first aid/CPR class but at the end of the meeting one of our advanced scouts will review proper clothing and gear for winter camping. Parents of new scouts should attend the latter part of our troop meeting (est. 8:30-9:00 pm) to better understand how to help their boy prepare and pack for winter camping.
December 1 will be a standard 7:00-8:30 meeting focusing on first aid.
December 8 is our camp planning meeting.
Our camping trip is December 11-12-13 to Grizzly Base Camp. Our troop will be divided into two groups for the weekend.
GROUP 1: Our new boys and core boys will continue first aid training in an outdoor setting and will take part in realistic scenarios. This group will return on Sunday at our usual estimated 1:00 pm time.
GROUP 2: Some advanced scouts and adults will be training in Wilderness First Aid by Aerie Backcountry Medicine. Cost is $135. For those taking this class, we need your payments ASAP to reimburse the troop treasury. This class required two full 8 hour sessions and so we will not return to Whitefish until Sunday evening.
December 15 is a special night with double credit attendance. We will help with a crossover ceremony for Webelos joining Boy Scouts and we will hold our Troop Elections.
Thank you all for a fantastic Leadership School this past weekend – please put your lessons into practice and strive for excellence!
Take care everyone and see you when I return.
Yours in Scouting,
Ben Conard
